The subject matter of Regrets and Resentment have been brought up several times around me the past few days. Resentment and Regret are quite similar.
Without doubt I have much regret about my past. You cannot change the past, however you can change your perspective on the past. This is done by asking for forgiveness and making amends. My journey in Recovery began with many regrets but have I learned that I can do something about it today.
If somebody hurts us and we are sore, we are in the wrong also. TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 90
I can do something about the anger that I feel. Anger is self centered. It's not about what the other person has done to me or what I think they have done to me, it is for me to look at myself and figure out what I need to fix about myself.
Hanging onto resentment is letting that person hang onto you. If you do not like what is happening to you then you should learn a new language. Lose the language of loss and learn the language of faith. Your words usually reflect what is going on in your life. The more you repeat what is wrong, the more you live what is wrong. We pick up our language from the ones we listen to the most.
Today I release my Regrets and Resentment. GodSpeed.
