Centering Our Thoughts

When World War II broke out, our A.A. dependence on a Higher Power had its first major test. A.A.’s entered the services and were scattered all over the world. Would they be able to take the discipline, stand up under fire, and endure . . . ? As Bill Sees It, p.200

I will center my thoughts on a Higher Power. I will surrender all to this power within me. I will become a soldier for this power, feeling the might of the spiritual army as it exists in my life today. I will allow a wave of spiritual union to connect me through my gratitude, obedience and discipline to this Higher Power. Let me allow this power to lead me through the orders of the day. May the steps I take today strengthen my words and deeds, may I know that the message I carry is mine to share, given freely by this power greater than myself. DAILY REFLECTIONS

Even though there is a solution, it is a continuous effort. An arduous task in the beginning however with time can come with ease, sometimes even the obsession being taken away. As I read this about the beginning of AA I thought back to something I had written earlier. It is like everything else in life that we want to become successful at, there must be a plan in place. Though it sounds simple, you need spirituality to connect all of the pieces...

Pride and Ego were my running mates. It takes humility to listen to someone else's opinion, especially in active addiction because we know "we are right" and do not want to take the time to listen to others opinions. Ego/Pride comes into play when others want to reach out to us with their opinion.

Humility leads us to trusting a person. It takes a spiritual Awakening to trust someone. Addicts never trust anyone. Not even their self. You have to learn to trust that "they" will not intimate those items that you have trusted sharing with them.

To be able to do that, there has to be a Spiritual Connection. We almost have to be "armed" with spirituality to be able to understand the disease, addiction. With this Knowledge we then have to fight the disease that is cunning and baffling. Without this, we will fail. Just as an army would fail not being "armed" going into battle.

God Could and Would if he were sought...He Can and He Will.
